Dah Sing Bank is committed to supporting the sports development of youth. This year, the Bank extended its support to the InspiringHK Sports Foundation's WELL DUNK! programme by fully sponsoring "Basketball Umpire and Competition Helper Training Course" from June to August 2024. WELL DUNK! Alumni aged 18 and above had the opportunities to explore career paths beyond playing or coaching. The programme comprised a series of theory lectures, on-court practical sessions, practicums, and a final assessment. Participants who successfully completed the course and passed the assessment would secure positions as Assistant Umpires or Competition Helpers for the upcoming WELL DUNK! Season. They also received subsidies to obtain the umpire qualification from the Schools Sports Federation of Hong Kong, China, enabling them to pursue their basketball passion in their future careers.
"Dah Sing Bamboo Planting Fun Day" took place on 29 Jun 2024, organised by Dah Sing Bank and A Plastic Ocean Foundation. During the event, Dah Sing volunteers planted approximately 40 Phyllostachys Aurea at Fanling farmland to prevent soil erosion and water runoff, enhancing biodiversity and making a valuable contribution to mitigating climate change. Furthermore, the volunteers visited the compost facilities nearby the farmland, including a compost recycling centre, a food waste management centre, a composting area and organic farming, to gain a deeper understanding of food waste management and sustainable lifestyle.
Dah Sing Bank sponsored the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong to launch the "Future Intelligent Furniture Programme 2024" from January to May 2024. The programme fully sponsored 80 local primary and secondary school students to attend 18-hour STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) training courses. With the guidance of Dah Sing volunteers and YMCA instructors, the students also visited intelligent furniture design company, where they gained hands-on experience with different smart home devices and developed in-depth understanding of smart home devices daily applications and users' daily needs to create their intelligent furniture. An exhibition cum graduation ceremony was held at the YMCA College of Careers on 18 May 2024, showcasing the students' works and recognising the outstanding students.
To help teenagers establish healthy lifestyles and discover their athletic potential, Dah Sing Insurance ("DSI") and Po Leung Kuk organised the "DSI Fencing Class" from March to May 2024. The programme provided professional fencing instruction for the young participants, cultivating their physical fitness and coordination skills, and enhancing their self-confidence, concentration and perseverance. 11 DSI volunteers interacted with the students throughout the 3-month course, offering encouragement and support along the way. Outstanding students were nominated to join their school fencing teams for advanced training, with the opportunity to represent their schools in inter-school fencing competitions. Through learning different fencing techniques and strategies, students were able to discover their own sports interests and potential, and develop a spirit of courage to embrace challenges and never give up.
As a long-term partner of Oxfam Macau, Banco Comercial de Macau, S.A. ("BCM") has supported the Oxfam Rice Event for the eighth consecutive year. BCM not only provided logistical support such as storage for goods and donation fund settlement services but also deployed their corporate volunteers to set up fundraising booths at BCM Main Branch and Prince Flower City Branch, encouraging the public to donate and raising awareness about poverty issues in developing countries, as well as the public's understanding of climate change challenges. In recognition of BCM's contribution, BCM was awarded first place in the "Top Donation Volunteer Group Award (Corporate Group)" and the first runner-up in the "Outstanding Group Order Award (Corporate Group)".
Dah Sing Bank ("the Bank") always supports the development of youth and employee sports. In line with this commitment, the Bank organised a Basketball Night on 10 Oct 2023 by collaborating with InspiringHK Sports Foundation. Dah Sing basketball team played a five-on-five basketball friendly match with the students from Tsing Yi Wolf-Warriors, a secondary school basketball team sponsored by the Bank through InspiringHK's "WELL DUNK" programme. Together, they sharpened their basketball skills and exchanged their experiences from the game. After the match, they discussed academic pursuits, careers, and even future life directions, using basketball as a means to bring themselves closer together.
Dah Sing Bank partnered with YMCA to launch the "Metaverse Art Creation Programme 2023". In collaboration with the YMCA's Youth College, the programme combined art and technology through STEAM education to provide local students with opportunities to explore the Metaverse and Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), empowering them to learn to design and create unique NFT artworks. The programme spanned five months and fully sponsored the participation of 80 local primary and secondary school students. It consists of four stages: 15 hours of classroom training, field trips for observation, a student art exhibitions, and a reward programme for outstanding students. This initiative aimed to help students embrace the opportunities brought by the Art Tech trend.
Dah Sing Bank has always advocated for sustainable development and actively promotes and participates in green and environmental activities. For the third consecutive year, the bank sponsored and participated in the Tree Planting Challenge of Friends of the Earth (HK). On 11 Jun 2023, 24 Dah Sing volunteers were dispatched to plant 250 native tree seedlings at Tai Lam Country Park. The objective was to increase the biodiversity and enhance the ecological value of the afforestation area. On the day of the event, Dah Sing volunteers successfully planted different local tree species, including Goosefoot Mangrove, False Apple Mangrove, Fallen Petal Tea Tree, and White Cinnamon Wood. With their collective efforts, they worked together to contribute to mitigating climate change.
Dah Sing Bank sponsored the "30th Green Power Hike For A Green Future" organised by Green Power in January to February 2023. A total of 20 of Dah Sing volunteers participated in the Bank Cup online run and hiked on the Hong Kong Trail during designated time periods. They recorded their hiking times using a mobile application, accumulating a total of nearly 300 hours of hiking. The aim of the activity was to allow colleagues to enjoy the fun of outdoor activities while raising awareness nature conservation, understanding the importance of resource conservation, supporting the concept of "leave no trace" (bring your own trash back to the city), and collaborating to promote sustainable development.
Green WALK Hong Kong 2022, a campaign sponsored by the Bank as part of our 75th Anniversary celebration, was successfully completed with the City Orienteering Competition held on 15 Jan 2023. It featured the "Green WALK Carbon Emissions Reduction Online Challenge", successfully rallying the public to accumulate a total of 364 million steps* via the official walking app, collectively achieving an equivalent carbon reduction record of over 60 tonnes* in carbon emissions for Hong Kong. The Bank also sponsored the "Dah Sing Bank 75th Anniversary Charity Challenge". Campaign ambassador Mr. Alex Fong and four elite Hong Kong athletes to be carbon reduction team captains to reach their goals of 750,000 accumulated steps each with the public within the first week of the campaign, and the Bank donated HKD750,000 in total to the five team's designated environmental charities to support sustainable development. Dah Sing Bank collaborated with the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong (YMCA) to hold the "Christmas Wreath Workshop" on 3 Dec 2022. Dah Sing Volunteers, including Dah Sing staff, their families and friends, made the upcycled Christmas wreaths with 40 underprivileged children and families to raise their awareness of upcycling and environmental protection, share the festive warmth and encourage staff to participate in community activities. The Christmas wreaths made by Dah Sing volunteers were donated to other underprivileged families or subdivided households through YMCA to share love and joy with communities.
Dah Sing Bank hosted the "Dah Sing Charity Score Challenge" basketball match on 26 Nov 2022 in support of Operation Santa Claus (OSC) for the tenth consecutive year. The event featured basketball matches and a series of challenge games that was well attended by children from Hong Kong Children in Need Foundation, close to 90 of the Bank's staff, as well as students from "Tsing Yi Wolf-Warriors", the basketball team sponsored by the Bank through the "WELL DUNK" programme organised by InspiringHK Sports Foundation. The Bank aims to foster a strong team spirit among its staff and support the younger generation as well as bringing joy and festive warmth to the children before Christmas.
Jointly organised by Dah Sing Bank and the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong (YMCA), Drone Performance Competition under the STEAM Drone Programme was successfully held on 12 Nov 2022 after the "train-the-trainer" and "train-the-students" phases, bringing the programme to a successful close. The programme sponsored over 100 local primary and secondary students to participate in the training of drone programming and drone light shows, promoting STEAM (science, technology, engineer, art and mathematics) education, enhancing students' knowledge and interest in scientific applications and developing their own creativity and spirit to try new things.
For the second consecutive year, Dah Sing Bank sponsored the tree planting day organised by Friends of the Earth (HK) to help mitigate global warming. The event took place on 9 Jul 2022 along the Nature Trail at Tai Lam Country Park. A total of 25 Dah Sing volunteers planted around 150 native tree seedlings to help conserve local flora and enhance ecological value. Through this initiative, the Bank aims to raise the awareness of its employees on protecting and greening the environment, and build a better and more sustainable future for the next generation.
Dah Sing Bank and the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong (YMCA) have jointly launched a seven-month STEAM Drone Programme in Dec 2021 to provide local students with the opportunity to enhance their STEAM skills by learning drone programming to design drone light shows. The programme is aimed at arousing the students' interest in science applications, and fostering their spirit of collaboration and communication skills. Targeting 20 secondary and 80 primary school students, the programme has three phases: train-the-trainers for secondary school students, and train-the-students and a drone light show contest for the primary school students.
Dah Sing Insurance (DSI) organised a cook-chill meals preparation event with Food Angel on 20 Dec 2021. 15 staff volunteers from DSI prepared a total of 7,000 meal boxes which were then distributed to elderly and low-income families who were in need of food assistance. This meaningful event allowed DSI's staff to experience food preparation and understand the issue of surplus food recycling. DSI's active participation also demonstrated the company's continuous effort on environmental and social sustainability.
For the ninth consecutive year Dah Sing Bank hosted the "Dah Sing Charity Score Challenge" on 11 Dec 2021 to support the Operation Santa Claus (OSC) charity fund-raising drive. The event featured a basketball match and a series of challenge games that involved some 110 of the Bank's staff, along with 24 children aged 7 to 12 from The HUB Hong Kong, one of the OSC beneficiaries. Through this event, the Bank hopes to foster team spirit while enabling its staff to contribute to charity and share festive joy. Its collaboration with The HUB also reflects the Bank's support for youth development.
To share the joy of Mid-Autumn Festival, Dah Sing Bank collaborated with the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong (YMCA) to hold mooncake making and creative lantern making workshops. Dah Sing volunteers and a total of 80 children participated in the two activities. The first involved making colourful crispy mooncakes, which were then sent to the elderly and grass-roots families in the neighbourhood by YMCA. The second one involved making lantern blending traditional and STEAM elements to give children an understanding of the principles of hot air circulation and power connections, with the Bank presenting eight awards for the most creative art works.
Dah Sing Bank sponsored the "Tree Planting Challenge 2021" tree planting day organised by Friends of the Earth (HK) along the Yuen Tun Country Trail at Tai Lam Country Park on 28 Aug 2021, to fulfil and promote the Bank's long-standing commitment to environmental sustainability. More than 600 local tree saplings of different species were planted by our team to contribute to the greening of Hong Kong. Through this event, we hope to urge the community to cherish resources, protect the natural ecology and join hands with us to promote sustainable development.
Organised by Banco Comercial de Macau, S.A. (BCM), co-organised by Macau China Bowling Association and sponsored by Macau Insurance Company, the BCM Charity Bowling Open Tournament 2021 was hosted on 25 Jul at the Future Bright Amusement Park in Macau. The event has successfully raised MOP18,000 for the Macau Association for the Mentally Handicapped. A total of 143 participants joined the Integrated contest, Youth contest, Individual contest and Group contest. BCM sincerely hopes the event can promote awareness of and integration with the inclusive society and together build a harmonious integrative culture.
Dah Sing Bank has long been involved in nurturing Hong Kong's next generation as part of its commitment to fulfilling its social responsibilities. We attach great importance to providing equal learning opportunities for young people to support their all-round development of young people. On 3 Jul 2021, the Bank collaborated with St. James' Settlement to hold an energetic STEAM Interactive Exhibition at the Blue House in Wan Chai, where 18 winning art works from the Bank-sponsored "Smart STEAM Kids" Programme were on display. More than 20 staff members and their families were invited to visit the exhibition and join a 3D printing workshop. The event was full of joy and gave much encouragement to the winning children.
Banco Comercial de Macau, S.A. (BCM) CSR team organised an educational talk "Currency and Currency Exchange Workshop" for a total of around 170 Form 4 to Form 6 students and teachers at Escola Nossa Senhora de Fatima on 29 Apr 2021. The workshop covered a variety of daily life examples to facilitate the understanding of the purpose and usage of currency and exchange among the students. BCM CSR team will continue to extend the workshop to more secondary and colleges in Macau to promote banking knowledge to the local students and nurture the next generation of talents for local financial industry.
Aiming to promote the development of Macau's creative industry and to provide opportunities for its local students and young designers to demonstrate their talent, Banco Comercial de Macau, S.A. (BCM) has organized a "CSR T-shirt Design Competition" during March to May 2021. Candidates were requested to submit a set of outdoor uniform designs that could reflect the CSR core value of BCM. The submission entries were graded based on the originality, theme, design and production cost. The prize ceremony was hosted on 3 Jul 2021 to present the trophy and prizes of MOP5,000, MOP2,000 and MOP1,000 to the champion, first-runner-up and second-runner-up, respectively. The winning designs will also be displayed in the bank in the future.
Dah Sing Bank hosted the "Dah Sing Charity Zoom Fitness Challenge" on December 2020 in support of Operation Santa Claus ("OSC"), aiming to promote health and fitness while also raising funds for the needy. This is the eighth consecutive year the Bank has organised the event, but given ongoing developments with the Covid-19 pandemic, it decided to move the activities online this time, allowing around 60 staff members across all departments to take part in a mini circuit training competition that promoted wellness awareness and team spirit amongst participants, while maintaining the warm and happy mood of the festive season. The Bank also invited 10 children from The Hong Kong Children in Need Foundation to join the online fitness games. Every score from the activity contributing towards donations by the Bank towards OSC.
A focus of Dah Sing Bank's commitment to corporate social responsibility is its support for a series of youth development programmes and community initiatives. During October and November 2020, the Bank is partnering with the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong to organise the "STEAM with Kids" Electrical Stick Making Online Competition. The campaign is aimed at stimulating young people's interest in science and technology. Children can submit their unique artworks for the competition after watching a hands-on experiential video. A ceremony will be arranged on 24 Nov 2020 to show praise and encouragement to the winning children.
Dah Sing Bank is collaborating with St. James' Settlement to organise a long-term event, the "Smart STEAM Kids" Experiential Programme, which is aimed at bringing STEAM education to young underprivileged students and inspiring them to be creative and believe in a better future. This programme is part of SJS's Grant-in-aid Brightens Children's Lives Services (GIA), a citywide charity project that will provide diverse learning resources for 108 underprivileged Primary three to six students. The programme runs for about nine months until May 2021, offering various activities such as STEAM Workshops, Exploration Journeys and a Sharing Carnival, all intended to develop participants' collaborative skills, creativity and innovation. Students can enjoy the outdoor learning experience in a safe manner under the guidance of Dah Sing volunteers.
At Dah Sing Bank, we have long been committed to helping young people learn to overcome challenges and strive for a better future. In June 2020, we sponsored the "Happy Learning Series — STEAM Classroom" initiative by South China Media, a hands-on experiential online learning programme aimed at local primary school students during the Covid-19 epidemic. The programme covered five episodes featuring educational projects focused on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics), which were posted on various South China Media Facebook pages.
The COVID-19 pandemic has made people increasingly reliant on food delivery services, resulting in the use of more disposable packaging and containers. In order to encourage children to reduce waste, reuse and upcycle food containers, Dah Sing Insurance has given full support to an online tutorial programme on upcycling organised by ELCHK.
Since 2017, DSI has commissioned a local youth illustrator to design calendar cards, red packets and collaterals for CSR activities as well as other promotional items, with a view to providing more working opportunities for young illustrators. We are glad that the Programme has proved successful and the illustrator's creations have been well received. The illustrator has also now been commissioned to produce design work for other companies.
Dah Sing Insurance is supporting a programme in Sha Tin and Kwun Tong organised by the Social Welfare Departmen's Child Development Fund and operated by The Boys' and Girls' Clubs Association of Hong Kong (BGCA), to encourage children from underprivileged backgrounds to plan the direction of their personal development direction, including increasing their life exposure, exploring new interests and developing a savings habit.
This three-year programme will involve training and value-added activities for participating children aged 10-16, or Primary four to Secondary four students residing in the designated districts.
Dah Sing Insurance staff will act as mentors / life guides to widen participants' horizons, cultivate their career inspirations, assist them in building self-esteem and resilience, and provide guidance and companionship as part of their personal development experience.
Dah Sing Insurance fully supports environmental concerns and strives to raise public awareness of various aspects of environmental and planet protection. Our "Save Our Environment and Planet" Facebook Wall Game in now in its fourth year, with two new games launched in March and June 2020 respectively, namely "Take Action at Home" and "Mission Plastics". The aim is to encourage the public to help protect the environment in useful ways through their daily actions.
In addition, "go green" messages are posted on our Facebook page from time to time to arouse public awareness of the "4R" environmental principles and implement them in their daily lives.
Dah Sing Insurance supported the Poster Colouring and Design contest organised by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong (ELCHK), which was aimed at arousing children's awareness of COVID-19 pandemic prevention and encouraging them to put preventive measures into practice and pay attention to their personal hygiene. Primary school students in Hong Kong were invited to enrol, competing for awards in Junior and Senior Divisions. They were asked to colour a poster provided by the organiser, showing their creativity by adding design elements of their own.
The Champion, First Runner-up, Second Runner-up and Most Creative Award winner in each Division were given 50 surgical masks or cash coupons. As appreciation and encouragement, sustainable cotton face masks were also given to 100 finalists.
Dah Sing Insurance is organising the "Hong Kong • Artistic Vision" Youth Drawing Competition to encourage youth participants to create illustrations of Hong Kong as a way of demonstrating their artistic talent and creativity, as well as boosting their self-esteem.
Young people between the ages of 15 and 24 are invited to create their own unique perspectives on Hong Kong to compete for the awards in the Secondary School Division, Public Division and Judge Commendation categories.
It is encouraging that many outstanding art works in various styles have been received, demonstrating the talents and creativity of local youth.
Since 2018, DSI has invited vegetarian cookbook writer Cathy Lee and CO2 (a young illustrator) to design illustrated vegetarian recipes. In January 2020, three more vegetarian traditional Chinese New Year recipes were published in order to promote the health and environmental benefits of vegetarian diet.
From October to December 2019, Dah Sing Bank and Sanrio Hong Kong held the campaign "Dah Sing Bank • Hello Kitty Saving for Your Dreams" Art Competition. The campaign aimed to popularise financial concepts with children and included an online drawing competition for primary students. More than 100 children submitted their hand-drawn artwork depicting ways to develop smart saving habits. During the award ceremony, the judging panel handed out 6 awards to the lucky winners: first place, second place, and third place; Most Creative Award, Merit Award and Most Popular on Instagram Award. The winning artwork was exhibited at designated Dah Sing Bank locations (Central, Causeway Bay, Shatin, Tai Koo, Shing Yip Street, Kwun Tong, and Tuen Mun) until 30 Apr 2020 for customers to enjoy during their regular banking transactions.
For the 7th consecutive year, Dah Sing Bank hosted the basketball competition Dah Sing Charity Score Challenge in support of Operation Santa Claus (OSC). This year's Charity Score Challenge featured a basketball match that engaged our staff and children from the HUB Hong Kong. All contributions raised through the basketball challenge were donated to OSC, to be distributed to beneficiaries throughout Hong Kong and to support a number of activities and programmes throughout the community.
Dah Sing Financial Group has long promoted sustainability and participated in the corporate social responsibility movement. For the 5th consecutive year, we once again provided full sponsorship for the Konica Minolta Green Concert. This year, the concert featured environmental topics such as eco-friendly energy storage and bicycling, and music for events such as the King of Singing Bike Battle. During the competition, participants sang while riding bicycles that generated electricity to power the concert. By having competitors power their own entries, it increased their awareness of how to effectively use their hard-earned power, and raised awareness of the importance of energy conservation and environmental protection.
In November 2019, some of our staff participated in a volunteer seminar organised by the Hong Kong Association of Banks and the St. James' Settlement for retirees — the Smart Use of Online Banking seminar. Held at the St. James' Settlement Retired Persons Service Centre, the event introduced the advantages of online banking and responded to any and all queries the retirees had about online banking services. The seminar also shared the importance of financial planning along with other fiscal and practical tips. It incorporated complete sharing sessions and interactive games to provide a meaningful activity for both our volunteers and the retiree participants.
The 2019 World Rowing Coastal Championships (WRCC) was held on 1-3 Nov 2019 in Victoria Harbour — its first time being hosted in Asia. Presented by Dah Sing Bank, the WRCC received an overwhelming response, with around 500 rowers competing from 29 countries and regions. At the carnival accompanying the WRCC, we ran a booth promoting recycling, energy saving, waste reduction, and other topics to raise awareness of the importance of protecting the sea. The WRCC and carnival attracted many of us as well as the general Hong Kong public. The WRCC presented by us was recognised as an "M" Mark event by the Hong Kong Sports Commission Major Sports Events Committee for its effort to promote Hong Kong's image as Asia's sports hub.
Vegetarian cuisine is healthy for the body and the environment. To encourage more people to adopt a healthier lifestyle and contribute to a stronger planet starting with their diet, Dah Sing Insurance again invited vegan cookbook author Cathy Lee and a young illustrator to create three vegetarian Christmas recipes, accompanied by delightful illustrations. The recipes were posted on the Dah Sing Insurance website, Facebook page, and intranet portal to share with the general public and our staff some helpful tips to eat healthy and protect the environment during the Christmas season.
Dah Sing Insurance recently sponsored the "Cross Generational Financial Management Program". The program was organised by the Evangelical Lutheran Church Social Service - Hong Kong in June and July 2019. It aims to provide life planning and financial management education to children, as well as raise their awareness of environmental protection. It also encourages children to show their care and concern to people in need and provides skills training to poor elderly residents with a view to helping them improve their standard of living. The first 2 events — a kitchen skills session for elderly residents and a family cardboard waste collection challenge — were held on 22 and 29 Jun 2019. The participants found the activities interesting and learned a range of new skills.
Dah Sing Bank is committed to supporting the local community and participates in a wide range of activities to promote innovation and technology to the next generation. In May 2019, we partnered up with YMCA again to organise the "STEAM with Kids" Mother's Day Workshop. During the event, our volunteers helped local children to make storm glasses and gift cards with mini solar-powered fans. The children were able to learn more about the principles of solar panels, the history of storm glass and its temperature-induced chemical reactions, and safety regulations governing chemicals used in storm glasses. All participants thoroughly enjoyed the event and were thrilled to prepare this very unique gift to express the gratitude and love to their Moms.
Recently, Dah Sing Bank received the "New Partner of the Year" title for YMCA's Y-Care CSR Scheme in recognition of the remarkable contributions we have made to supporting local communities through participation in various volunteer works. We have been working with YMCA since 2018 and have participated in a series of activities such as "STEAM with Kids" Workshops and Chinese New Year Elderly Visits. To help create a better tomorrow, we will remain committed to corporate social responsibility by supporting a series of youth development programmes and community initiatives. These efforts will help to benefit more people in need and reflect our brand tagline, "Together We Progress and Prosper".
In May 2019, Dah Sing Insurance launched a Facebook Wall Game called "Save Our Environment and Earth – Show Green, So Green". Participants were invited to share their green lifestyle and encourage more people to pursue an eco-friendly lifestyle.
Launched in 2017 by Dah Sing Insurance, the Nurturing Young Illustrator Programme aims to give young artists a platform to showcase their skills and provide potential business opportunities with commercial organisations. This year, we commissioned young illustrators to design calendar cards, red packets, CSR promotional materials, and other designs. Dah Sing Insurance has worked with young illustrators for 3 years. Their works showcase a diverse range and are well-received — a true display for their passion and design skills.
Dah Sing Insurance sponsored the Business Analytics Case Competition 2019 organised by Business Association BEA HKUSU. The competition was held on 30 Mar 2019. Participants were required to analyse the case of an insurance company and recommend a marketing campaign for the company to increase profitability, growth and competitiveness. There were 19 teams competing for the award. The winning participants received cash prizes, while members of the top performing team were offered summer internship opportunities with Dah Sing Insurance. The internships provide opportunities for students to obtain a better understanding of the general insurance market and gain practical experience in the commercial sector.
Dah Sing Insurance recently sponsored the Mine Challenge 2019, which was held on 3 Mar 2019 and organised by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong. 2 teams from our staff and disadvantaged groups participated in the charity event. Team members worked together to complete the assigned tasks and were able to appreciate Ma On Shan's natural landscape and cultural heritage. The fund-raising activity supports the preservation of mine community heritage. We are committed to supporting this meaningful event, as well as raising staff and public awareness of environmental protection and cultural heritage.
In January 2019, Dah Sing Bank supported a CSR Programme — Fun Day at Ebenezer School jointly organised by The Hong Kong Association of Banks (HKAB) and the Boys' & Girls' Clubs Association (BGCA). During the event, our volunteers shared experiences and advice about financial planning and personal savings to the students. We also helped visually impaired students participate in a range of activities and enjoy the drama, which encouraged students to learn more about financial management and helped disabled children learn new skills in a fun atmosphere.
Dah Sing Bank sponsored a volunteer event organised by YMCA to celebrate the Lunar New Year with local elderly residents. Dah Sing Volunteers worked with a group of children from YMCA to make Lunar New Year snacks and gifts. The volunteers chatted with elderly residents and gave them New Year gift packs; they also helped to decorate the homes of elderly with Chinese New Year crafts. The event enabled the volunteers to learn more about the lives of elderly residents as well as the importance of extending care to those in need and giving back to the community.
In December 2018, Dah Sing Insurance launched a Facebook Wall Game called "Save Our Environment and Earth" in order to raise public awareness of environmental protection.
Dah Sing Financial Group participated in a competition organised by Konica Minolta in November 2018. The competition aimed to support environmental protection efforts and raise funds for the Little Life Warrior Society to support child patients with cancer, bone marrow transplants and severe blood diseases. 6 teams from the group joined the competition. DSFG won the "Best Team Spirit Award" and one of the DSB teams won the "Team Champion Award".
Dah Sing Bank has supported Operation Santa Claus (OSC) for 6th consecutive year. We successfully hosted around 150 DSB staff and 50 children from the Chicken Soup Foundation (CSF) in a friendly basketball match and a series of fun challenges in order to raise funds for OSC. Our collaboration with CSF is part of our ongoing commitment to the younger generation. CSF is dedicated to serving underprivileged young people and their families through a wide range of educational programmes.
Dah Sing Bank (China) recently received the 2017 Corporate Social Responsibility award from the Shenzhen Banking Association. The award was given in recognition of our commitment to social responsibility. We will continue to make a contribution to charity work, environmental protection and disadvantaged groups to help create a better future.
In 2018, Dah Sing Insurance once again sponsored the Outstanding Youth Awards Programme organised by the New Home Association (NHA). The programme aims to recognise secondary school students in Western Kowloon who have made outstanding achievements or good progress in academic performance and / or conduct, as well as commitment to public service. 24 students from primary and secondary schools were selected to receive the Excellence in Conduct and Academy Award and The Outstanding Academic Performance Award. The winning students were awarded book vouchers. The Presentation Ceremony was held on 5 Nov 2018.
On 28 Oct 2018, Dah Sing Bank supported "Green Walk HK", which was organised by the World Green Organization. The theme of the event was "Urban Hiking", and the event aimed to promote green lifestyles and environmental protection. The highlight of the event was an orienteering competition, which attracted over 1,000 participants including around 200 of our own entrants. As supporting the next generation is one of our longstanding corporate values, we also sponsored children from underprivileged families to participate in the competition and raise their awareness of environmental protection. Thanks to the efforts of our Staff who participated in the "Green WALK HK App" Walking Challenge, 5,725,737 steps were completed in 1 month. This is equivalent to reducing 1,073 kg of carbon emissions.
Following the success of the first STEAM volunteer event in May, Dah Sing Bank once again teamed up with YMCA to organise the second round of the "STEAM with Kids" Dream Playground Workshop. The event was held in October 2018 and attracted a total of 60 of our own volunteers and local children, who used their creativity and imagination to build their "dream playground" with colourful luminous blocks. The children were encouraged to apply their knowledge of electrical circuits to their designs. This helped to improve the participants' concentration and logical thinking skills. The hands-on activities encouraged the children to learn in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.
Dah Sing Insurance teamed up with ELCHK's Log-In Club for New Arrivals to organise a vegetarian cooking competition in August 2018. The competition aimed to inform the younger generation of the health and environmental benefits of a vegetarian diet. The young participants worked with their mothers to design a menu, shop for ingredients and prepare a meal. The competition encouraged children to work with their parents and introduced the important concept of budgeting. The competition was held on 24 Aug 2018. 16 teams of children aged 6-10 were asked to work with their mothers to cook a vegetarian dish in 40 minutes. Four awards were up for grabs, including the Best Vegetarian Chef Award, the Most Creative Chef Award, the Smartest Chef Award and the Perfect Partnership Award. All participating teams were asked to vote for their favourite dish, with the 3 most popular dishes receiving an award.
In cooperation with Junior Chamber International Hong Kong (JCI) Peninsula, Dah Sing Bank participated in the CSR event "Dialogue with The Future" on 23 Jun 2018. The event invited university students for a summer training program to enhance their skills. In addition to sponsoring this training event, we also participated in a 'Dialogue' session in which speakers (including us) engaged with the students and discussed the challenges of transitioning from school and university to the workplace, and also shared strategies for success.
In May 2018, Dah Sing Bank together with YMCA (Chai Wan Center) jointly organised a "STEAM with Kids Workshop" with a total of 60 participants including underprivileged children and our volunteer team. The event included a robot making workshop and computer programming lessons to stimulate children's interest in science and technology. All of the participants were very happy and it was truly a fun day to remember!
In order to promote the environmental and health benefits of a vegetarian diet, Dah Sing Insurance invited vegetarian cookbook writer Cathy Lee to produce 6 vegetarian recipes. We also worked with young local artists, who designed images for each recipe. The initiative aims to encourage more people to try vegetarian cooking for health and environmental reasons. Starting from June 2018, the second week of every month will be "Go Green Week". 6 vegetarian recipes with illustrations will be posted on the Dah Sing Insurance Facebook fan page. The recipes will also be uploaded to the BOP so that we can share the fun of vegetarian cooking with our colleagues.
In addition, the recipes will be distributed to the members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong who have enrolled to participate in a cooking competition to be held that summer.
Dah Sing Insurance supported the Youth Illustrator Programme in collaboration with CO2. As part of this programme, young local artists helped to design images of vegetarian recipes, calendar card and red packet envelope for Dah Sing Insurance, and promotional materials for the Parenting Vegan Cooking Competition held in August 2018, including certificates for participants, props, banner and posters.
Dah Sing Insurance sponsored two teams formed by our own staff and one team from a low-income family to participate in the Mine Challenge 2018 held on Feb 25, the first mine-themed charitable race in Hong Kong, organised by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong. Team members worked together to complete the assigned tasks. Along the way, they were able to appreciate Ma On Shan's natural landscape and cultural heritage.
This fund-raising activity supports mine heritage cultural revitalisation. We strive to support this meaningful activity, as well as to raise staff and public awareness regarding cultural conservation.
One of our teams, DSI Arcadia, even won the Highest Fundraising Prize.
Dah Sing Bank sponsored and participated in a volunteer event organised by AKA Social Service to share warm, caring moments with the elderly and to celebrate the Year of Dog together. On the day of the event, our volunteers led a group of children from InspiringHK Sports Foundation to serve the elderly and share the joy of the season. Event highlights included lion dances, kids' and pop song singing performances and a rope skipping show, as well as a reunion dinner with seniors. Through a series of games and programmes, all the children experienced the importance of extending care to those in need and cultivated the spirit of generously giving back to the community.
On 3 Feb 2018, Dah Sing Insurance made its debut in the Green Power Hike — HKFI Cup (10KM), with a satisfactory result. This fund-raising activity supports Green Power's environmental education efforts.
In support of Operation Santa Claus (OSC) for the 5th consecutive year, our staff joined hands with around 40 children from the Changing Young Lives Foundation (CYLF) in a series of challenge games together to raise funds, followed by a friendly football match featuring the winning teams from our internal football competition. Every score from the challenge games and the friendly match counted towards contributing donations for OSC. Our ongoing commitment to nurturing the younger generation lies behind our collaboration with CYLF, which supports underprivileged young people and inspires them to work towards a better life through educational and development programmes.
Dah Sing Financial Group sponsored and participated in the Konica Minolta Green Concert cum VR Bike Power Challenge for the 3rd year running. Competitors wore VR glasses to race on a virtual track, storing up electricity for the concert. In addition to promoting environmental protection, the event also donated all proceeds to the Hong Kong Amputees Association which provides a platform of support and development for amputees to re-join society and raise awareness for this underprivileged group.
The Dah Sing volunteer team led a group of children to take part in the "2017 Mid-Autumn warmth-giving" event, organised by the Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council Sham Shui Po District Elderly Community Centre. The volunteer team visited elderly couples and single people living in Sham Shui Po, spending time to chat and learn about their day-to-day lives. For their part, the elderly residents were happy to share their life experiences. The volunteer team and children also helped them celebrate the festive joy by giving out gift bags containing mooncakes, food and other items.
We were pleased to serve as the title sponsor of the National Gymnastics Extravaganza, organised by the Gymnastics Association of Hong Kong on 21 and 22 Oct at Queen Elizabeth Stadium. Olympic medallists from the Chinese National Team and members of the Hong Kong Team combined their talents to stage a spectacular performance of gymnastics. We also issued invitations through the InspiringHK Sports Foundation and S.K.H. St Christopher's Home to a number of underprivileged young people and their families, inviting them to come and enjoy the event.
To show our support and concern for environmental protection and reducing the carbon footprint, DSI promoted green messages on Facebook. In October 2017, we highlighted environmental issues and ways to protect the environment and reduce waste through eight Facebook posts. In December 2017, we ran a Facebook game offering prizes to raise public awareness about low carbon lifestyles and energy saving.
With the aim of nurturing young people, DSI teamed up with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong's Grace Training & Development Centre (GTDC) to provide job opportunities for young illustrators. We commissioned CO2, a graduate of GTDC's comics and design course, to design a calendar card and red envelope, which were well received. We continue to work with young illustrators in different ways and through various channels.
DSI sponsored the 2017 Outstanding Students Awards organised by New Home Association (NHA). The awards recognise primary and secondary school students from NHA's Western Kowloon service area who have had outstanding achievement or excellent progress in their academic performance and / or conduct. 75 primary and secondary school students were awarded either Best Academic Performance, Best Progress, or Excellence in Academics and Conduct awards. The winning students each won book coupons between HKD300 and HKD800 in value. The presentation ceremony was held on 12 Aug 2017.
As part of the programme, the awardees and volunteers from DSI visited low-income families in Sham Shui Po, West Kowloon on 8 Aug 2017, to foster community spirit.
We recently launched 70th Anniversary Limited Edition Gift Cards designed by 7 local artists. Following the launch of the gift cards, we donated a total of HKD700,000 to 7 local NGOs selected by the artists, including Benji's Centre, the Children's Cancer Foundation, the Hong Chi Association, the Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children, St. Christopher's Home, Treats and Youth Outreach for a better future of Hong Kong. The donations will be used to support nearly 4,000 children from low-income families or with special needs. This will include counselling and treatment services, medical and recreational facilities, and organising events.
In 2017, we sponsored the "Lion Apprenticeship" young entrepreneur programme organised by the Hong Kong Wuyi Youth Association. The programme was financed by a special fund provided by the Hong Kong government to help young adults establish their own business. This fund was allocated to nine separate organisations, including the Hong Kong Wuyi Youth Association In addition to providing financial support, we also sent some of our senior staff who specialise in transaction banking to teach young entrepreneurs about cash and trade management, one of the crucial success factors for a start-up.
We have been dedicated to serving the Hong Kong community for 70 years. As a part of our engagement to nurture the next generation, we recently organised a charitable event called "Go Green with Kids" in cooperation with the Hans Andersen Club. The event was held on Lamma Island where our volunteers embraced nature together with 70 children, seizing the wonderful opportunity to learn about nature and ways to conserve it. The volunteers and children also planted 70 potted flowers in the community farm to highlight our commitment to ensure the prosperity of future generations.

In 2017, we continued to cooperate with the Hong Kong General Chamber of Small and Medium Business and held a series of seminars with the SME community. One of the topics discussed was the increasing number of business opportunities for SMEs in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Bay region. We also sponsored and participated for the 5th year since 2013 in a major annual SME event at the World SME Summit held by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Hong Kong General Chamber of Small and Medium Businesses.
Our staff held a series of events for students from Lingnan Secondary School as part of the "Life Buddies" programme organised by Hong Kong's Commission on Poverty. We also organised internships for students at the end of May to enable them to gain valuable work experience and apply the skills that they learned during the programme. Our mentoring team recently held a closing ceremony at the school to mark the successful conclusion of the programme, which has given students the opportunity to gain valuable experience of the workplace and learn about academic and career choices.

We have been operating in Hong Kong for 70 years, providing high-quality banking products and services to local customers. We are committed to implementing a corporate culture of "serving customers, serving the community" and carrying out a broad range of corporate social responsibility including environmental protection, community service and employee welfare. We have been rated a "Caring Company" for more than 10 consecutive years.
As part of the Life Buddies programme sponsored by The Commission on Poverty, our mentoring team took the opportunity to share information on career-oriented topics such as operations in the banking industry. The team discussed resume and application letter writing and how to develop a positive working attitude. Mock interviews were also held to help students master this hurdle when applying for jobs. Students showed a keen interest in the activities and were inspired by the employment experiences of our mentors. The mentoring team also presented students with message cards, wishing them good results in DSE.
This was the 4th year in a row that we have supported Operation Santa Claus (OSC), and this year our staff came together with 32 children from the FHL Adventure Education Centre in a charity basketball match. All funds generated were donated to OSC to support a broad spectrum of charitable projects. Our members joined hands with children from the FHL Adventure Education Centre, showing great engagement and strong team spirit on that day.
Our mentoring team joined students from Lingnan Secondary School to discuss self-knowledge, how to establish targets and to give youngsters a vision of life planning. Participating students were keen to discuss life-planning issues, and the Mentors also encouraged them to set career goals to increase their upward mobility.
We formed a team to support the Life Buddies mentoring programme, which was sponsored by The Commission on Poverty to help young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to move upward in society thereby reducing intergenerational poverty. The programme was launched at Lingnan Secondary School in October. In this academic year, our mentoring team will have regular meetings with the assigned students of Lingnan Secondary School on life-planning topics.
We were invited to join the Taobao E-commerce Training Programme organised by the Alibaba Entrepreneur Fund and the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups. The training programme aims to help grow young talent in the area of e-commerce. We took on the role of trainer for one of the classes on the topic of cash flow and financial management and the basics of trade finance. The class was taken care of by our transaction banking team.
We title sponsored the "Dah Sing Bank ROPE-SKIPPING Inspires!", a 2-year training program organised by the InspiringHK Sports Foundation and co-organised by the HKSKH Shatin Children and Youth Integrated Service Centre.
The participating kids were encouraged to develop positive values through professional rope skipping training. Mr. Timothy Ho, the rope skipping world champion and world record keeper, was invited to perform at the kick-off ceremony, while students of "Dah Sing Bank ROPE-SKIPPING Inspires!" participated in long rope skipping with our staff to help develop their team spirit.
We presented the first "DORAEMON RUN 2016" at the West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade in Hong Kong which attracted nearly 10,000 participants to join the 4 km and 2 km races. We also sponsored more than 80 underprivileged kids from the InspiringHK Sports Foundation to join the 2 km race and enjoy an unforgettable racing experience, develop their sporting spirit and help inspire them to contribute to society.

The "Dah Sing Charity Football Challenge" was held at the Southorn Stadium in Wan Chai in late November in support of Operation Santa Claus (OSC). This was the 3rd consecutive year that we supported OSC, which raises funds for Hong Kong charities and the underprivileged. The event included an internal staff football match and gathered around 30 children from the Inspiring HK Sports Foundation to enjoy several football challenge games with 8 teams from our staff.
DSFH sponsored the "Konica Minolta Green Concert: Extreme Power Generating Challenge Event" and sent teams to participate. The event aimed to raise public awareness of global warming and extreme weather and helped to raise funds for the "Hong Kong Seeing Eye Dog Services". The challenge was held under simulated conditions of extreme weather like earthquakes and hurricanes, to help the public understand the problems that may soon confront us all. Stationary bikes and rowing machines were also used to generate electricity for the Green Concert.
To celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, our volunteers and their children visited elderly folk in need in Sham Shui Po and gave out gift packs and mooncakes. Kids are taught to show love and care to the needy in our community. The event was organised by the elderly community centre of the Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council in Sham Shui Po.
We collaborated with the Heep Hong Society and sponsored "Dah Sing Volunteers Summer Job Challenge", in which our management and volunteers helped kids in need to plot their career paths through role-playing different professions, such as cooks, firemen and flight attendants at the Dream Come True Education Park.
We continued its support of the "Life Journey" Youth Seminar Series organised by the Hong Kong Association of Youth Development. In the past year, 6 seminars were held and attracted over 700 youngsters and secondary school students. The Series concluded with a talk by the well-known pianist, Colleen Lee, on her colourful life in music.
The Jessica Run 2015 was held on 15 Mar 2015 at CyberPort, and raised a total of around HKD200,000 for the Heep Hong Society, The Hong Kong Girl Guide Association and the Yuen Kong Kindergarten. We sponsored the Corporate Team Challenge financially and also gathered 27 of our colleagues to form 6 teams to run in the event. We are delighted to say we got 1st runner up!
Dah Sing Volunteers Easter Kid Art Fun was held on 21 Mar 2015. We sponsored the Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation in preparing a series of activities with an Easter theme for kids in need. Our management joined hands with the volunteers to provide kids with special art experiences during this meaningful event.
The "Junior Leader Development Project" organised by the S.K.H. St. Christopher's Home and sponsored by Dah Sing Bank, came to a successful conclusion in February. Approximately 200 students from local low-income families attended the training courses which were designed to help them develop leadership skills and self-confidence and be better equipped to contribute to society in the future. The students showed what they had learnt on stage during a joyful closing ceremony earlier.
We continued our support for the "Life Journey" Youth Seminar Series organised by the Hong Kong Association of Youth Development. In January and April, Mr Chi-wai Lai, a Hong Kong athlete, and Ms Akina Fong, a former TVB anchor, were invited respectively to share their life experiences with students and encourage them to live a beautiful life.
We supported "Human Christmas Tree" and "City Mosaic", a charity fundraising event organised by the Ai You (HK) Foundation on 21 Dec. We also sponsored over 1,000 Polo Shirts designed by a renowned designer for the participants who built the tree. Not only were the participants having fun, they also helped raise a considerable amount of funds for this meaningful event.
Our staff teams aimed for high scores to raise funds for "Operation Santa Claus" (OSC), a charity organised by the South China Morning Post, in the Dah Sing Charity Score Challenge at the Southorn Stadium in Wan Chai on 22 Nov. Our teams played against the YMCA team in a series of basketball game challenges along with a friendly match. The event not just contributes towards raising funds for OSC, but also fosters stronger team spirit.
Award-winning cellist, Mr. Trey Lee, shared the story of his musical journey with students in the third Life Journey Seminar organised by the Hong Kong Association of Youth Development in late October. He reminded students of the importance of introspection and inspired them to pursue their dreams with a never-give-up attitude.
A number of activities were organised during a Work-Life Balance Week in October to raise awareness of the importance of a well-balanced life. Staff members learned stretching exercises designed by a Certified Professional Ergonomist, enjoyed an afternoon tea break, and exchanged tips on work-life balance. The Chief Executives of DSBG and DSB visited colleagues at their offices on the happy Friday, to express their good wishes, share healthy snacks and encourage everyone to leave early to enjoy the weekend.
To help draw attention to the work of the Ai You (Hong Kong) Foundation which provides financial support for children in mainland China suffering from heart conditions, we have been sending out quarterly pamphlets to customers along with their statements. This helps Ai You to maintain donations without increasing administrative costs. We also invited Mr William Tang, the volunteer chief executive of the foundation, to be the speaker at one of our SME client events.
To show our love and care for those in need during the mid-Autumn festival, our 30 volunteers together with their family members gave out gift packs to elderly residents in Shek Kip Mei and Pak Tin Estates.
We are sponsoring a series of seminars entitled "Life Journey" organised by the Hong Kong Association of Youth Development. Ms Inti Fu, who has run marathons in many countries despite being blind, was invited as the second guest speaker to talk about living with a disability and her guide dog Nana. The next "Life Journey" seminar will be held in late October.
We are committed to nurturing the next generation. To help promote creativity and teamwork among youngsters, we were delighted to support the 2nd "Boogie on Board" Hong Kong Youth Dance Gala which was held on the first travelling truck stage in town.
As part of our ongoing efforts to support youth development, we sponsored a series of seminars designed to help youngsters adopt a positive attitude towards life. Titled "Life Journey" the seminars were organised by the Hong Kong Association of Youth Development. Ms. Shelley Lee was invited as the guest speaker of the first seminar to share her life experiences of helping young people during the SARS period.
We continued our encouragement of reading among Hong Kong's younger generation by donating books to the participants in the Buddy Reading Program organised by Kids4Kids. The Program organises volunteers to read English stories with children from various local community centers, schools and learning centers.
To encourage students to improve their language skills and read more, The Dah Sing Financial Group's Volunteer Team supported the Buddy Reading Program organised by Kids4Kids. The volunteers shared the joy of reading with the students from L.S.T. Leung Kau Kui Primary School in Tin Shui Wai and gave them English books as gifts.
